A student card is a credit card exclusively for students. Unlike most credit cards, student cards are only issued to students 18 years of age or older who are enrolled in junior colleges, four-year colleges, graduate schools, or vocational schools, etc. Students under 20 years of age must have parental consent.

Because students have lower incomes than working adults, many student cards have lower credit limits than typical credit cards. However, they often have no or low annual fees for the same reason.

Many student cards offer benefits unique to student cards that are not granted to general credit cards, and some of these credit cards are linked to universities.

Some student cards linked with universities offer higher discount rates than usual when used at university cooperating stores, and some offer special privileges such as preferential services. Benefits vary depending on the cooperating university or credit card company, so it is best to check before signing up.
