ECB stands for European Central Bank, established in June 1998 and headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany. It is responsible for monetary policy in the euro area, specifically the formulation and implementation of monetary policy, the issuance and management of euros, the conduct of foreign exchange operations, and the smooth operation of the payment and settlement system.

The ECB’s highest decision-making body, the ECB Policy Council, meets every six weeks, and statements made by the President are an important part of understanding the economic situation in the Eurozone.

In June 2017, ECB President Draghi revealed that the ECB is working to identify financial stability risks stemming from digital assets such as virtual currencies. He stated that virtual currencies need to understand that they are not regulated and need to be considered extremely risky assets.
