CLABE code stands for “CLABE Account Number” and is assigned to each bank account in Mexican financial institutions. It consists of the bank code (3 digits) + city code (3 digits) + account number (11 digits) + check digit (1 digit), for a total of 18 digits.
This code was jointly introduced in 2004 by the Central Bank of Mexico and the Mexican Bankers Association, and is required when transferring money from abroad to a Mexican bank account.
Please note that attempts to send money internationally to Mexico without this information may result in delayed deposits or additional fees. Since the exact CLABE code can only be confirmed by the destination bank, it is advisable to ask the recipient for the correct code number when sending money internationally to Mexico.
