ECDSA refers to elliptic curve cryptography, a public-key cryptosystem that uses two different keys for encryption and decryption. Compared to RSA, which is also a public-key cryptosystem, ECDSA is becoming a mainstream public-key cryptosystem because it offers the same level of security and high-speed processing with only one-tenth the data length.
Familiar examples include copyright protection for video content in digital broadcasting, encrypted communication protocols (SSL/TLS) for the internet, and IC cards.
